It is summertime once again, and schools and college-preparatory academies across the country are sending out their summer reading lists. For the past several decades, research studies have shown that students who are not engaged in reading and learning during the summer regress in reading comprehension and writing skills, and more time must be devoted to reviewing when the school year begins again.
At Greenbrier Christian Academy, we have designed a summer reading plan for our students. Students in K5-5th grade have developmentally appropriate summer reading expectations, with assignments that reinforce comprehension and complement our reading curriculum. The Jr. Collegiate and Collegiate Academy’s book list is designed to coordinate with the curriculum for the upcoming school year.
Thank you for your partnering with GCA in your student’s summer reading and writing activities!
