GCA's 2018 Homecoming activities kicked off with the 2nd annual Alumni volleyball game, followed by our Alumni basketball game. The largest crowd in Alumni game history witnessed an exciting double overtime game with Jamie Miller, Class of 2016, sinking two free throws with one second remaining to seal a victory for the Orange team. Josh Miller, Class of 2009, led the Orange team with 28 points, while Paul Martin kept the Blue team close with 16 points.
Prior to the start of the boys Varsity Basketball game, the 2018 Homecoming court was announced. GCA Collegiate students had previously nominated representatives from each class to the court. Court members shared testimony and speeches during Collegiate Chapel, after which the student body voted for one of the young ladies to represent the Collegiate Academy as 2018 Homecoming Queen. At half-time, Dr. White announced the 2018 Homecoming Queen as Senior Emma Hewitt and the 2018 Maid of Honor as Senior Cassidy Brock. The winner of Homecoming Spirit Week Battle of the Classes was also announced as the Senior Class.
The Varsity Boys Basketball team was well matched against the Beach Breakers, with the game going into overtime in front of a packed house full of GCA students, alumni, and Gator supporters. Both teams gave it their all until the very end and although our Gators came up one point short, they showed what heart on the court is all about and left nothing behind. We are so proud of our student athletes! Go Gators!
