Gators Finish Strong
On the coldest night of the year so far and in front of a huge crowd of Gator-faithfuls, GCA battled Blessed Sacrament-Hugenot to the final seconds in the state championship game, but came up just a little bit short 14-18. The defense did not allow the Knights to score any points in the second half and kept the Gators in the game all the way to the finish. We couldn't be more proud of the effort, the sportsmanship and the Christ-like character that our team displayed tonight and all season! Way to go, Gators varsity football 2011-VISAA Division IV State Runners-Up.
Thanks also to all of the fans who rode the fan buses 2 1/2 hours up to the game. It was an incredible feeling having so much excitement on the Gators' side of the field. I hope we can continue this level of school spirit into basketball season!
Gators Win!
"We are....GCA!" High School principal, Dr. Sam Botta's chapel message Friday morning challenged the students to represent Christ everywhere they go. "We are a team...the GCA family, and we should represent our family name--Greenbrier CHRISTIAN Academy," he said.
The Gators varsity football team took the challenge onto the field tonight at Hampton Christian. It took a whole team effort to overcome all kinds of difficulties on this first night of the 2011 season. In the end, GCA was victorious on the scoreboard defeating the Warriors by a score of 42 to 39. TJ Reynard (2), Bryce Myers(2), DJ Lake and Josh Miller scored touchdowns and freshman Hunter Clark added two extra points as a converted soccer-player-turned-kicker.
The Gator faithful were in force on the sidelines with familiar cheers of "First dooowwwwwwn GATORS!" throughout the night.
Fantastic Finish!
For the second week in a row, the Gators varsity football team put forth a great team effort and were victorious in a very close game. This week, the Gators took on TCIS conference rivals Norfolk Academy Bulldogs at home. The game came right down to the final seconds with a final score of Gators 34 - Bulldogs 30.
Fantastic Finish! At half-time the score was tied 21-21. Norfolk Academy went up 21-27 in the 4th quarter on a touchdown and missed PAT. The Gators scored a touchdown with 5:18 to play (plus Hunter Clark's 4th PAT in a row!) to take the lead 28-27. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead with 1:42 to play on a 23-yard field goal 28-30. The Gators mounted an awesome game-winning drive and scored with 14.5 seconds on the clock for the win 34-30!
We would ask for your prayers for injured Bulldog runningback Hunter Wagnon who was injured in the 4th quarter of the ballgame.
The Gators have a by-week next week and then on the 23rd of September take on Victory Christian at GCA at 7:00pm. Come support Gator Football 2011!! Go Gators!
