Purpose Statement

Using the various mediums of the Fine Arts (Music, Art, and Theatre) this department exists to challenge students to comprehend the academic aspects of the fine arts; to witness the revelation of an awe-inspiring and divinely empowering God through His creating and His Word; and then to acknowledge, respond, and participate in the creative process which professionally relays God’s character and message through group and individual projects, performances, and presentations.

General Description

The GCA Fine Arts department consists of instrumental and vocal music, theatre and the visual arts.  Students have many opportunities to learn to perform in each of these areas throughout their school careers at GCA.  We strive to provide our students with the best quality instruction and tools to bring glory to the Lord using their talents in the fine arts.

Private piano and instrument lessons are available to students beginning in the lower grade levels.  Annual instrumental recitals are held in May for all students taking private lessons.  There are also three levels of band groups for the students to be a part of: the 5th grade band, the middle school band and the high school band.
GCA has three handbell choirs: the Handbell Club which is offered to 5th & 6th grade, the Middle School Handbell Choir and the advanced, auditioned Praise Ringers in the High School.   We currently have five octaves of bells as well as three octaves of chimes.

Students are taught to sing beginning at the earliest levels at GCA through weekly music classes.  Once a student reaches the 5th grade he or she may participate in the Children of Light choir.  Sixth through eighth grade students may sing in the Middle School choir, and High School students may audition to sing in the Choral Ambassadors.

GCA has been blessed with a lot of talent in the visual arts area.  With two full-time art teachers on staff, students begin in the lower grades with weekly art classes.  In the Middle and High school levels art and pottery are elective courses that meet daily.  In the spring the art department displays the students' art in gallery form in the annual Art Extravaganza--a very elegant format with live music, live art, a variety of art spread throughout the gallery, a silent auction and hors d'oeuvres.
