Foundations Chapel - May 3, 2017
In this morning’s chapel service, Mrs. Cox laid the foundation for the final month’s theme of the year, “Walking in Him means I will want His will to be done.” She asked the students about things that they wish they were better at. After receiving answers such as gymnastics, karate, and academics, she asked the students who they might go to in order to improve these skills. Likewise, Mrs. Cox taught, the disciples followed Jesus Christ because they wanted to be like Him in every way. One of those ways was through prayer. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how they should pray. In His answer, Jesus laid out what is now called the “Lord’s Prayer,” in which He prays for God’s will to be done on the earth, as it is in Heaven. Mrs. Cox explained Christ’s prayer while He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, before His crucifixion. In His prayer, He states, “not my will, but your will be done.” Jesus Christ submitted to His Heavenly Father and willingly died for the sake of all mankind. Applying this to students, Mrs. Cox reminded them that they should willingly submit and surrender to His will for their lives because His will for them is so much better than anything they could ever dream up for themselves.
